2009 = More or Less $$

Most of you know about our annual increase in Base Pay (3.9% for 2009), but BAH has also been reevaluated and you need to check it out!

Your BAH will either go up, down or stay the same. You can CLICK HERE and put in you Zip Code to find out what you will be getting on your next pay check!

Don’t get all upset if you have a mortgage or pay rent and your BAH shows that it is going down. You are grandfathered in, which means you keep your current BAH.

But, if you are just moving off base, or looking into buying, beware, you will be receiving whatever the new BAH is.

It’s good to know what you are supposed to be receiving so that if it is ever wrong you can catch it and not end up owing the Military for getting “over paid”.

From Chief of Naval Personnel Public Affairs

WASHINGTON (NNS) — The Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP) released the Cycle 200 active-duty advancements Nov. 19 for the fall 2008 exam cycle.

Overall advancement opportunity held steady for the fourth straight exam cycle, with total opportunity decreasing by only .56 percent, from 24.69 percent to 24.13 percent.

Sailors taking the E-4 test saw their advancement opportunity increase from 42.54 percent to 43.94 percent (+1.40 percent), while E-5 quotas stayed stable at 22.60 percent (-.68 percent), and E-6 test takers saw opportunity decrease slightly from 12.14 percent to 10.75 percent (-1.39 percent).

Rear Adm. Dan Holloway, director of CNP’s policy branch, said “I’m happy to see advancement remain steady once again. We saw a smooth trend from last year to this year, and given our increased retention through all paygrades, that’s very encouraging news.”

“We’ll be watching advancement very closely in 2009 and beyond,” Holloway said. “If we continue to see increased retention, especially in the senior pay grades, upcoming advancement cycles could see a decrease in opportunity, especially at the E-7 to E-9 level.”

Do we need this?

I have a nightly routine whether my husband is home or away, where I check the world news updates.  I don’t have a “favorite” site since depending on what mood you are in and who’s side you are on can have an influence on what you claim to be the truth.  But tonight, I just got more and more aggravated. I listen to the news to hear things that can affect me or the people around me.  It’s also nice to hear interesting stories and feel that you are updated with national and world events. What I am getting so frustrated with is the stuff we don’t need. I don’t need to read the detailed description of how a child was beaten and raped, or how a murderer “felt” once in prison!?  These are not stories that are going to help us, inform us, or last entertain us.  I know that drama sells, but have they gone too far?  I think so.  Tonight I looked at both CNN and FOX on-line.  I do have to say that CNN had more unnecessary stories that were just smut in my opinion. FOX didn’t have any in your face headlines, but that doesn’t mean they don’t on any other given night.   Continue reading

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.  And if you haven’t thanked someone today, I encourage you to reach out and do so.  It doesn’t have to be holiday to recognize such bravery and heroism.
